Found a wild animal, injured or otherwise?
We often have fledgling birds brought to us by concerned citizens, and in every single case those birds have to be taken back to the exact spot they were found. Why? Fledgling birds are fed by their mothers on the ground, not by a human in a rehabilitation facility.
The best chance for ANY animal in the wild to survive is to stay in the wild.
If you find a wild animal, and it appears to be uninjured, leave it be. If necessary, shoo it out of harm's way. If the animal appears to be injured, contact your nearest wildlife rehabilitation facility for directions on how to proceed. (We use http://www.procyonwildlife.com/) Be cautious - injured wild animals will be scared and handling of them may result in an injury to yourself.
What are you feeding your pet?
With so many choices of food out there, making an informed choice can be very confusing
(and misleading)!
While most pet store employees may seem knowledgeable, often their only source of information is sales representatives, which may not have your pet's best interests at heart (believe me - I worked in a pet store for 6 years!). Your best source of knowledge is the very place that knows your pet best - your veterinarian and veterinary technicians! They can help you make an informed decision regarding what is actually in that bag of food.
The rule of thumb is to make sure that your food is scientifically formulated - that is, the producer knows what goes into each and every bag, it is always consistent, and is researched to no end to make sure you have a high quality product that you can feel safe feeding your pet. These companies will stand behind their product, and if you are not satisfied in any way, they offer a full refund - no questions asked! Be wary of foods that claim 'human grade' or 'holistic' as these statements mean nothing in the pet food world.
Make sure you discuss your pet's diet at your next visit to the vet - you never know what is (or isn't) in that bag of food!
